Flag of Wallis and Futuna
The official flag of Wallis and Futuna is the French flag. The unofficial flag shown here has a red background with the French flag (three vertical stripes of blue, white and red from left to right) in the top left corner having a white outline on the bottom and right side only. At the centre there are four isosceles triangles with their apexes pointing inwards towards the centre. All the apexes are at an angle of 90 from one another. The apexes do not merge into one and hence, a red cross gets formed.
Three triangles represent the native kings of the island and the fourth represents the French administrator. The red color signifies courage while the white color signifies the purity of ideals. The French flag refers to the French sovereignity.
The unofficial flag was adopted in 1985.
