Flag of Venezuela
The flag of Venezuela is made up of three horizontal stripes equal in width. The top stripe is yellow followed by blue and the last one is red. At the centre of the flag and the blue stripe there are 8 white five pointed stars arranged in a upwardly convex curve. In the top left corner of the flag the official coat of arms of Venezuela is placed.
The colors of the flag represent:
- Yellow for wealth or new opportunities.
- Blue for the Atlantic ocean separating Venezuela from Europe.
- Red for the independence from Spain.
The 8 stars in the flag represent the 8 provinces which are Barcelona, Barinas, Caracas, Cumaná, Margarita, Mérida, Trujillo and Guayana.
The flag was adopted by Venezuela on Feburary 19, 1954 and the first Venezuelan flag was hoisted on July 14, 1811.
