Flag of Turkey

The flag of Turkey has a red background with a white crescent moon placed just to the left of the centre of the flag. The moon is placed facing towards the right and a five point white star is placed just to the right of the moon. The size of the star is 1/4th the height of the flag where as the moon is 1/2 the height of the flag.

The design of the flag has been derived from the Ottoman Empire flag and the crescent moon and the star are symbolic of Islam.

The flag was adopted on June 5, 1936.
