Flag of Tunisia

The flag of Tunisia has a red background with a white circle at the centre. The diameter of the circle is 1/2 the height of the flag. A red crescent moon is placed inside the circle which nearly encircles a white five point star.

The crescent moon and the star are seen as the symbol of Islam as well as for good luck.

The Bey of Tunis Al-Husayn II ibn Mahmud decided to create the flag after the Battle of Navarino on 20 October 1827 and was finally adopted in 1835.
