Flag of Syria
The flag of Syria has 3 equal width horizontal stripes, red at the top, followed by white and black at the bottom. There are two green five point stars placed in the central stripe, one on the left side and the other on the right side of the centre of the flag.
The colors of the flag are the traditional Pan-Arab colors. The green is thought to be the color of the Rashidun or Fatimid, white the color of the Umayyads, black the color of Abbasids and red the color of the blood of martyrs. The stars on the flag represent Syria and Egypt, the two participating nations in United Arab Republic which Syria left in 1961.
The flag was adopted on May 29, 1980.
