Flag of Swaziland
The flag of Swaziland has 3 horizontal stripes, the top and bottom stripe are colored blue where as the central stripe is colored red. The width of the central stripe is 3 times the width of the blue stripe. The red stripe is lined by yellow on the top and bottom. At the centre of the red stripe there is a black and white ox hide combat shield from the traditional Swazi Emasotsha Regiment. Two Swazi spears as well as a fighting stick are placed under the shield. 2 royal Swazi ornamental tassels called tinjobo, which are made from widow bird and loury feathers, are placed on the stick on either side of the shield and 1 tinjobo is placed on the shield.
The colors of the flag represent:
- Red for the blood shed.
- Yellow for the mineral wealth.
- Blue for peace.
The flag was adopted on October 30, 1967, a year before Swaziland gained independence from Britain on September 6, 1968.
