Flag of Christmas Island
The territorial flag of Christmas Island is partitioned diagonally from upper-left (hoist side) to lower-right (fly side). The upper triangle is green in color, while the lower triangle is blue in color. The green triangle envelops a yellow picture of the Golden Bosun Bird, whereas the blue triangle encloses the Southern Cross constellation of stars, symbolizing Australia. A yellow colored circular disk, with a green map of the island encircled in it, is placed at the center of the flag.
Symbolism

- Southern Cross constellation represents the island's relation with Australia as well as its position in the southern hemisphere
- The bird, called Golden Bosun, is a native to the island
- Yellow circular disc stands for the island's olden times in phosphate mining
The flag was informally accepted in 1986 after being selected as the winner in a contest for a flag for the land. It was propose by Tony Couch of Sydney, Australia. The flag was officially adopted on Australia Day, 26 January 2002, when the administrator of the land, Bill Taylor, offered the flag to the Christmas Island Shire.
