Flag of Chad
The flag of the Republic of Chad, vertical tricolor of blue-yellow-red and adopted the year before the country became independent of France in 1960, on 11 June 1959, is based on the French tricolor, with yellow replacing white. This gives two of France’s colors and two Pan-African colors. The colors have been given new meanings. Blue is for the sky and the water of the south. Yellow represents the sun and the northern desert. Red is for valour and sacrifice in the struggle for freedom. The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
