Flag of Burundi
The flag of Burundi is partitioned by two white diagonals (stretching across forming a cross). It results into red sections (top and bottom) and green sections (hoist side and fly side). A white solid disk is placed on top at the center enclosing three red six-pointed stars, outlined in green and set in a triangular formation. The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
Symbolism
- Green indicate hope and trust
- White stand for purity and clarity
- Red signifies the struggle for independence
- The stars symbolize the three key ethnic groups of Burundi: the Hutu, the Twa and the Tutsi. They also represent the three elements of the national slogan: unity, work and progress
The national flag was adopted on March 28, 1967.
