Flag of Burma
The flag of Burma has plain red background with a blue rectangle situated at the upper hoist side. The blue rectangle comprises of 14 white-colored, five-pointed, stars encompassing a cogwheel (with 14 spokes) including a stalk of rice. The height to width proportion of the flag is typically 5:9.
Symbolism
The elements on the flag represent the following:
- Red indicates the courageous and brave citizens of Burma
- Blue symbolizes peace, harmony and integrity
- White refers to the purity of the culture and people
- Cogwheel signify the country’s industries and trade
- The stalk of rice stands for agriculture and farming
- The 14 stars represent the unity and equality among the seven administrative divisions and seven states
The latest flag drawing was not completely unlike from the earlier flag of Burma in that both marked a red background with a blue region in the upper corner on the hoist side. On the other hand, the metaphors inside the canton were changed to a cogwheel with a stalk of rice placed upon it.
The flag was implemented on January 3, 1974 leading the announcement of a socialist republic in Burma.
