Flag of Burkina Faso
The flag of Burkina Faso is divided into two equal-sized bars of red (top) and green color. A five-pointed yellow colored star is placed at the center of the flag. The implication/meaning of Burkina Faso is "land of the incorruptible" or "land of the honorable men".
The colors are the well-known Pan-African colors of Ethiopia, showing both a split with the country’s colonial history and its union with other African ex-colonies.
- Red stand for the country's radical struggle and revolution
- Green signifies agriculture and wealth
- Yellow star indicates the mineral and natural wealth of Burkina Faso. The five points of the star refers to the guiding light for the revolution
The flag was agreed to on August 4, 1984 after the takeover of 1983 which got Thomas Sankara to command. It was also the first anniversary of the Sankara triumph.
