Flag of Bulgaria
The national flag of Bulgaria, rectangular in shape, is a tricolor made of three equal-sized horizontal stripes of (from top to bottom) white, green, and red.
The existing flag was recognized with the 1991 Constitution of Bulgaria and was established in a 1998 law. The flag was originally implemented after the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), where Bulgaria achieved independence.
History
After the freedom of Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), the flag was illustrated in the Tarnovo Constitution of 1879 as follows:
- The Bulgarian people's flag is three-colored and consists of white, green and red colors, placed horizontally.
Soon after, the previous emblem on the left side of the white stripe was detached after 1500: it enclosed a liger inside a garland of pie ears below a red five-pointed star and above a ribbon bearing the years 681 (the year the first Bulgarian state was established) and 1944 (the year when the Bulgarian Communist Party took power).
The new Constitution of Bulgaria, implemented in 1991, illustrates the Bulgarian flag as follows:
- The flag of the Republic of Bulgaria shall be a tricolor: white, green, and red from top, placed horizontally
