Flag of Botswana
The national flag of Botswana has light blue color in the background. A black horizontal stripe is situated at the center which is separated (on either side) from the light blue background by a thin white colored bar. The various elements on the flag represent the following:
- The light blue indicates life, rain, and water (derived from the coat of arms, which says ‘Let there be rain’ in Tswana and also a limited and valued commodity in the enormous Kalahari desert)
- The black and white symbolizes ethnic cooperation, equality and harmony among the Botswanan people (sometimes, it also refers to the Zebras)
The flag was officially adopted on September 30, 1966.
