Flag of Bermuda
The national flag of Bermuda has a red colored background with the flag of United Kingdom in the top left quadrant. The Coat of Arms of Bermuda is situated in the bottom right quadrant.
The Coat of Arms of Bermuda describes a red lion holding a shield that has a representation of a broken ship upon it. The red lion is a symbol of England and refer to Bermuda's relationship with that country. The broken ship is the Sea Venture, the flag ship of the Virginia Company. The ship was intentionally driven on to the reefs of Bermuda, by Admiral Sir George Somers, in 1609, to prevent it from foundering in a storm. All on the ship survived, resulting in the settlement of the Island.
The Flag of Bermuda was adopted on October 4, 1910.
