Flag of Belgium

The national flag of Belgium has three equal vertical stripes of black (hoist side), yellow, and red color. The vertical drawing was based on the flag of France, while the colors were adopted from the colors of the Duchy of Brabant (historical region in the Low Countries). It was intended to imply Belgium's acknowledgment as an independent country. Black, yellow, and red colors symbolizes the country's coat of arms; black representing the shield; gold representing the lion, and red representing the lion's claws and tongue.
