Flag of Belarus
The national flag of Belarus is rectangular in shape with two horizontal stripes. The upper stripe is red in color which occupies 2/3 rd of the width and the lower stripe is green in color which occupies 1/3 rd of the width. A lean vertical stripe is positioned on the left (hoist side) region with white background and red Belarussian decorative design inscribed on it. The staff of the flag is painted in golden. The various elements on the flag signify the following:
- Red color is for the ancient times of Belarus, as red was the color used by the Belarusian military at the Battle of Grunwald, and of the Red Army when they were at war with Nazi during World War II
- Green color indicates the prosperous future in front of Belarus, and also symbolizes the many forests situated in the country
- The Belarussian attractive pattern denotes Belarus' rich cultural heritage, its spiritual permanence, and the unity of its people
The current flag was officially adopted on June 7, 1995.
