Flag of Bahrain
The national flag of Bahrain is divided into two vertical columns. The left is white-colored whereas the right column is red-colored. The two columns are separated by a saw-like border with five triangles. The various elements on the flag symbolize:
- The red is the long-established color of the ensign of the Persian Gulf states
- The five saw-like triangles indicate the five pillars of Islam
Initially the flag was plain red in color but after signing a treaty with Great Britain, the white colored column was added. The saw-like border was affixed to differentiate the flag of Bahrain from its neighbors. The current design was implemented in the year 2002.
