Flag of Albania
The national flag of Albania has red color in the background. A horizontal black colored symbol of two-headed open-winged eagle is situated in the center of the flag. The eagle signifies the lack of submission of the highland Albanians to foreign conquest. The two-headed eagle is a regular figure in heraldry and vexillology. No other recognized sovereign state has a red and black colored flag. It is supposed to be derived from the analogous seal of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg. This flag was formally put into operation on April 7, 1992.
The civil flag and naval flag of Albania are different from the national flag. The civil flag consists of three equal horizontal bands of red, black, and red color. The naval flag is analogous to the national flag, except that the eagle is on a white backdrop, and the lower segment of the flag has a red stripe.
