Flag of Montenegro

The flag of Montenegro has a red background, with golden borders and the coat of arms at the center which has a height 2/3rds the height of the Flag. The Republic flag is also the flag of the Army of Montenegro.

Initially, Montenegro did not have an Official flag to represent the State itself. What was then used was the alaj-barjak, or regimental colors, with a cross on it. Montenegrins gathered around crosses either when meetings were held or before battles. The usage of flags as a state symbol came in the time of Petar II Petrovic-Njegos.

This flag was officially adopted on 13th July 2004.
