Flag of Malaysia
At first sight, the Malaysian national flag is reminiscent of the Stars and Stripes, and this was the likely design inspiration, although the use of colors is probably coincidental. Red and white are traditionally used in Southeast Asia, while the blue stands for the unity of the Malaysian people. Yellow is the royal color of the rulers of Malaysia, while the symbols represent the dominant religion, Islam. The Malaysian Federation’s original 14 member’s states are represented in the 14 stripes and in the 14 points of the star. Singapore left the federation in 1965, two years after its founding but the flag stayed the same, with the extra stripe and point now representing the federal government.
The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
