Flag of Madagascar

Madagascar, a large island in the western Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of Africa, has been a traditional destination for immigrants from Southeast Asia, and this demographic trend is reflected in the colors of its flag. The red and white are said to represent the island’s first inhabitants; the Hova people from Southeast Asia (red and white are the colors traditionally associated with the region; see, for example, the flag of Indonesia), as well as the Africans of the island. The green is said to represent the people of the coastal region; this color was added when the flag was adopted in 1958, two years before full independence from France was gained.

The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
