Flag of Macedonia
The Yugoslavian province of Macedonia declared independence in 1992 but immediately found itself disagreeing with neighboring Greece over its emblem, the Star of Virginia. It had become a popular emblem among Australian Macedonians, and was preferred for the new national flag over the traditional colors of black and red. It was said to derive from a decoration on the gold coffin of the Greek king Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, and a version is also used as the emblem of the Greek province of Macedonia. The issue was resolved in 1995 after a treaty with Greece and the adoption of a modified sunburst motif for the flag to replace the star.
The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
