Flag of Luxembourg
The colors of the grand duchy’s flag derive directly from its arms, which are centuries old; a shield which forms the centerpiece of the arms has a blue-and-white-striped background, with a red, crowned, two-tailed lion rampant in the center, and these colors were adopted for the flag. Its design dates from the mid-19 th century and was probably influenced by the French tricolor, but the flag itself was not officially adopted until 1972. It is similar in appearance to the flag of the Netherlands, but the Luxembourg blue is of a paler shade and the flags’ proportions are slightly different.
The ratio of the flag is 3:5.
