Flag of Libya

Prior to 1977, the Libyan national flag comprised the Pan-Arab colors of red, white and black in a design identical to that of Egypt, with who Libya was in federation at that time. But in 1977 Egypt made peace with its traditional enemy, Israel, in a move that angered many Arab nations. In a reaction to this Israeli-Egyptian pact, Libya adopted its current flag. The plain green field symbolizes its Green Revolution (which emphasized agriculture and the need for self-sufficiency in food) and the nation’s continuing adherence to Islam. Two years later, in 1979, Libya also left the Federation of Arab Republics, which it had co-founded with Egypt and Syria.

The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
