Flag of Laos

This is one of the few Communist flags not to use a five-pointed star emblem. Adopted when the country became a republic in 1975, it has a white disc in its center symbolizing the people’s unity under the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party. The red stands for the blood, shed by the people in defense of their country, and blue symbolize the nation’s wealth. The flag belonged to the Pathet Lao, or Lao Patriotic Front, who battled with royalist government forces after independence from France. This flag replaced the royalist flag of three elephants standing under a parasol on five steps, representing in its various elements the monarchy, the people and their Buddhist faith.

The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
