Flag of Kyrgyzstan

In 1992, the year after the break-up of the USSR, the new flag of this former Soviet Socialist Republic came into being. It comprises a 40-rayed sun centered in a field of red. The sun’s rays stand for the 40 tribes which merged to become the Kyrgyz nation, and the national hero, Manas the Noble, is represented by the red field. Within the sun is depicted a bird’s-eye view of a yurt, the traditional tent used by the nomadic people of the Steppes. The roof, or tunduk, of the yurt represents the traditional heart and home of these nomadic tribes.

The ratio of the flag is 3:5.
