Flag of Kuwait

The Pan-Arab colors feature on Kuwait’s flag. Once, a part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire, Kuwait had been a British protectorate from 1899 till 1961. In that year the country gained independence and the flag was adopted. It is a horizontal tricolor of green, white and red, with a black trapezium at the hoist. A similar shape appeared on the 1932-1958 flag of Iraq. According to a well-known Arabic poem, green is for fertility, white for glorious deeds, red for chivalry and military skills, and black for the battlefields where the enemies suffered defeat.

The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
