Flag of Kazakhstan
The new flag of Kazakhstan was adopted in June 1992, the year after the break-up of the USSR, of which Kazakhstan had been a member. On the sky-blue field are a golden sun and a soaring eagle, and in the hoist is a vertical stripe-described as the ‘national ornamentation’. The blue field represents the sky, and the sun and the eagle stand for the lofty aspirations of the Kazak people. The blue is of a similar color to that used in the country’s old SSR flag. The eagle itself is of a species known locally as the ‘berkut’, or Steppe eagle.
The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
