Flag of Jordan
As part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20 th century, Jordan was one of several aspirant nations to adopt the black, red, white and green colors of Pan-Arab nationalism. The original flag used in the World War I Arab revolt against the Turks, had the colors black over green over white, but the present order was established in 1921, and the star was added in 1928. Its seven points represent the first seven verses of the Koran, the Holy Book of Islam. The star also distinguishes the Jordanian flag from that of Palestine.
The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
