Flag of Indonesia
The Majapahit Empire in 13 th century Indonesia had a red and white flag as its banner, and these colors – considered holy colors at that time – were used in the region down the centuries. Their 20 th century revival was as an expression of nationalism against the Dutch who has controlled Indonesia through the Dutch East India Company since the 18 th century. The current flag was first used this century in the 1920s, being adopted officially as the national flag of the republic in 1945 when the country declared its independence. Its red over white bands stand for courage, and justice and purity respectively. Except for its proportions, it is identical to the flag of Monaco.
The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
