Flag of Guyana

The flag of this former British colony was designed to reflect the country’s physical attributes and the qualities of its people. The flag has twp triangles pointing out from the hoist – a smaller red-colored and a larger gold-colored spanning the fly, fimbriated in black and white respectively – on a green field. The red color is said to represent the energy of the people in building the new country, while the gold color symbolizes the mineral wealth and the country’s forward thrust, maintained by perseverance (indicated by black). The white fimbriation symbolize the rivers, and the green field shows the agriculture and forests. The flag was adopted in 1966, the same year Guyana achieved its independence.

The ratio of the flag is 3:5.
