Flag of Guinea-Bissau
Guinea-Bissau’s flag was adopted in 1973 when the country became independent from Portugal. The flag is based on the one used by the liberation movement since early 1960s, which in turn was probably based on the flag of Ghana, first of the former African colonies to achieve independence. The red, yellow and green are the colors of the Pan-African movement, and the black star is also expressive of a desire for African unity. But in the flag of Guinea-Bissau the colors are also symbolic in their own right: red color for the blood of the fallen heroes of the impendence movement; green color is for hope; yellow color for the sun & source of life; and the black colored star is for the African continent.
The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
