Flag of Panama
In 1903 Panama was a province of Colombia. Colombia and the United States were engaged in talks over the building of a canal to link the Pacific and the Caribbean. Colombia refused the United States permission to do so. AS a result, Panama withdrew and allowed the United States to build the canal. The flag was designed by the first president, made overnight by his wife, and hoisted when the country declared independence. Blue represents the Conservative Party and red indicates the Liberal Party, while white stands for peace and cooperation between them. The blue star is for public honesty and loyalty, and the red star for the supremacy of the law.
The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
