Flag of Palau
Originally a part of the United Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, Palau broke away to become a self-governing republic in 1981. The flag dates from the same period. The blue field is common to the flags of many nations in this area of the world, and represents their location in the Pacific. The yellow disc, set slightly towards the hoist, represents the full moon and is a symbol of productiveness. It is also a reference to the ancient culture of the islanders and their belief that the time of the full moon is the most productive for creative tasks like planting, harvesting and fishing.
The ratio of the flag is 13:15.
