Flag of Oman

The country is also referred to as the ‘Sultanate of Oman’. The accession of Sultan Quabus bin Sa’id in 1970 saw the adoption of a new Omani flag. Until then, the country (also called Muscat and Oman) has used the centuries-old red banner of the indigenous peoples, the Kharijite Muslims. Red has been retained in the new flag, now with the addition of white and green panels in the upper and lower parts of the fly. In the canton appear the state arms in red and white: two crossed sabres feature behind a gambia, a traditional local dagger, and an elaborate horse bit appears in the foreground over all.

The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
