Flag of Niue

The flag of Niue is based on that of New Zealand, of whom the island has been an autonomous dependency since 1974. The flag itself was adopted in 1975. The yellow field represents the warmth of mutual friendship between Niue and New Zealand. The four five-pointed stars of the Southern Cross constellation, on the fly of the New Zealand flag, appear in yellow on the arms of the Cross of St. George in the Union Jack in the Canton, and the yellow star, set within a blue disc, represents Niue itself. Many Pacific Ocean nations choose to represent themselves in their flags by the use of stars.

The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
