Flag of Nigeria

Nigeria was a British colony from the 19th century until 1960, when the flag of the new nation was adopted. The present flag was the winning entry in a competition held in 1959. The green-white-green vertical tri-bar depicts the country. The River Niger, shown by the white band, runs through forests on either side represented by the green. In addition, green represents agriculture, Nigeria’s main source of wealth, and the white symbolizes unity and peace.

The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
