Flag of Niger

Niger, like other former French colonies, used the tricolor as a design model for its own flag on independence. It was a part of French West Africa from the beginning of this century until 1960, and the present flag was adopted in 1959 in anticipation of independence the following year. The colors symbolize the country’s physical features: orange indicates the Sahara Desert which occupies much of the north of the country, green represents the grasslands of the south, and white the River Niger flowing between the two. The orange disc in the center symbolizes the sun. Cote d’Ivoire, once a part of French West Africa. Is the only African country using the colors.

The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
