Flag of Nicaragua

Nicaragua was a member of the United Provinces (1821-1838). The flags of all five states are based on the federation tri-bar and the modern Salvadorian and Nicaragua flag only differ in shades of color and central details. White in the center with blue above and below show the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean to the north and south of Central America. The arms on the state flag are derived from the United Provinces arms. They are a triangular for justice and equality, containing as isthmus with five peaks (for the five provinces) between two seas. The cap of liberty is for freedom and the rainbow for hope. Around are the names of the country and ‘America Central’.

The ratio of the flag is 3:5.
