Flag of New Zealand

New Zealand’s recent history as a colony of Britain is reflected in the appearance of its flag, which is based on the British Blue Ensign, with the country’s distinguishing badge set in the fly: a group of four white-fimbriated, red five-pointed stars, a stylized representation of the Southern Cross constellation and a design feature commonly found on the flags of many countries in the southern hemisphere. The flag had originally been designed in 1869 for use at sea, and was officially adopted as the national flag on land in 1902, around the time that Australia was adopting a similar flag.

The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
