Flag of Netherlands Antilles

A self governing territory of the Netherlands, the Antilles is two island group in the Caribbean which became part of the Dutch Empire in the 17th century. They became autonomous in 1954, and the flag was adopted originally in 1959. The red and blue bands of the Netherlands have been used in a cross pattern on a white field, while the five stars represent the islands themselves; Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten. There were formerly six stars, the sixth representing Aruba, but that island became self governing in 1986. The other islands, except St. Eustatius, now have their own flags.

The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
