Flag of Nepal

The flag of Nepal is the only national flag which is not rectangular, being based upon two separate pennants, flown one above the other, which belonged to the rival branches of the Rana dynasty. People of the Rana dynasty were the former rulers of Nepal. The two pennants were first joined in the last century, but the flag was not adopted officially until 1962, after the establishment of a constitutional form of government. The white sun and the horizontal crescent moon are now said to express the hope that Nepal itself will last as long as the sun and moon. These motifs appear in white against a red background (crimson being the national color), and a blue border edges the entire flag.

The ratio of the flag along the straight edges is 4:3.
