Flag of Mongolia
Nationalism and Buddhism are represented in the Mongolian flag. The red bands originally represented Communism. Now they symbolize prosperity and progress. The central blue band is a traditional color of the Mongol peoples, and represents patriotism. The gold Soyonbo at the hoist is a Buddhist symbol, in which the shapes represent aspects of the Buddhist faith, eternal life (the sun and the moon), and the balance of life (the yin-yang symbol). It also stands for the independence, spirit and sovereignty of Mongolia. The flag was adopted in 1940. On the fall of Communism the Soyonbo was changed to remove the Communist star, which had appeared above it.
The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
