Flag of Marshall Islands
Formerly a part of the United States Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, the Marshall Islands split from Micronesia to become independent and in 1979 came both a new government and new flag. As with other Pacific island states’ flags, blue and white are the main colors and a star motif features on it. The star represents the islands themselves, and its 24 points stand for its islands’ districts. The four elongated compass points of the star express the islanders’ Christian faith, while the star’s position, in a field of blue and above the two bands, and suggest their location, in the Pacific Ocean slightly north of the equator. The white and orange stripes represent hope and wealth.
The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
