Flag of Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)
Together with South Georgia and the South Sandwich islands, the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) are a British territory. They were discovered in 1592, since when several countries, including France, Spain and Argentina, have claimed them. The flag is a British Blue Ensign, with the badge in the fly. The shield depicts a sheep standing on an island, representing the wool industry. On the sea is a ship, the ‘Desire’. Below is the motto ‘Desire the Right’. The Desire was the English ship which discovered the Falkland Islands, and the motto refers to it and to Britain’s claim to the islands. The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
