Flag of Eritrea

Eritrea gained its freedom in May 1193 after the collapse of the Communist regime in Ethiopia. It had been an autonomous province of Ethiopia, with its own flag, until 1959, and the old flag, together with the flag of the Eritrea People’s Liberation Front, has been used as the basis for the new. The olive wreath and stem are features from the old flag, themselves originally inspired by the flag of the United Nations. The rest of the flag is derived from the Eritrea People’s Liberation Font flag, with the olive wreath replacing the yellow star previously appearing in the red triangle. The ratio of the flag is 2:3.
