Flag of Dominica

The sisserou parrot, central feature of Dominica’s flag, is the unique national bird; it stands for high national aspirations. It is surrounded by 10 green stars, for the island’s parishes. They are set in a red roundel to show commitment to social justice. The roundel appears on a cross of yellow, black and white, the three strands representing the Holy Trinity and the colors symbolizing: sunshine, agriculture and the native people (yellow); the purity of the people’s aspirations, and of local water (white); the soil and the people’s African heritage (black). The green field is fir the island vegetation. The flag echoes Dominica’s motto, ‘Apres Bondie C’est La Ter’, meaning ‘After the God Lord Comes the Land’. The ratio of the flag is 1:2.
